WWE SmackDown results, recap, ratings: Logan Paul throws a lucky punch in front of Crown Jewel

All it takes is one. That’s the narrative WWE has drawn on SmackDown, right up to Roman Reigns versus Logan Paul in the WWE Crown Jewel. Paul gained a mental advantage over his foes as the friction continued on Friday night’s The Bloodline.

Roman Reigns didn’t want anything to do with Paul on SmackDown. That’s according to Sami Zayn, who informed the band members that no one will be interacting with Paul on Friday’s show. The undisputed WWE universal champion was not interested in giving Paul any incentive or reason to believe he had a chance to beat Reigns at the Crown Jewel. Unfortunately, the rages beat The Bloodline and put the ball firmly in Paul’s court.

SmackDown also hosted an ominous warning from Bray Wyatt, a women’s tag team title defense, updated matches for Crown Jewel, and much more.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and recaps of all the action at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Paul’s strike force takes down Jey Uso

SmackDown started with a tough fight between Solo Sikoa and Sheamus. Bloodline and Brawling Brutes found themselves facing off in the #1 contender’s deadly four-way match for the intercontinental title last week.

Solo Sikoa def. Pinfall and Sheamus After downloading Spinning Solo. Opponents parried him in an expected physical match. Sikoa shifted her focus to the injured shoulder of Sheamus’ story and threw an avalanche of Samoan Drops at the Irishman. A fight ensued between Bloodline members Sami Zayn and The Usos and outside Brawling Brutes’ Butch and Ridge Holland. The Usos was knocked down by a ringside diving Sheamus after burying Butch and Holland under a table. Sikoa took advantage of the distraction and dusted Sheamus with her finishing move.

After the match, The Bloodline jammed Sheamus’ left arm into a steel chair. Jey Uso snatched a second chair and repeatedly rode the endangered Coke. WWE announcer Michael Cole later said that Sheamus was hospitalized.

Bloodline celebrated their victory later in the evening. Jey offered Paul the jump, but Zayn said such a move would directly violate Reigns’ orders. Reigns didn’t want Paul to think that The Bloodline was occupying his hive mind. Jey suggested that as the group’s hothead, he might go against the wishes of the “Tribal Chief”.

The camera briefly cut off Logan Paul’s arrival in a limo.

Paul debuted on the last episode of the night on SmackDown. He cut a promo that made fun of The Bloodline and questioned what would happen if he knocked out Reigns at Crown Jewel. Jey ambushed Paul, beat him and crushed him in the corner. Zayn came to cool his colleague. Jey refused the advice and took another corner kick. Paul stepped out of the way and knocked Jey down with a big punch. Paul laughed as he walked, reinforcing his belief that he could dethrone Reigns with one lucky punch.

Including in the narrative that Paul, who has low level boxing experience, has a chance to punch, is probably the best direction for this feud. The overwhelming majority of people expect Reigns to stay, and it’s silly to market this as an even match. Reigns is a record-breaking champion and Paul is a social media star with two WWE matches under his belt. It was a believable ending to the show, with increasing friction with Jey’s temperament and The Bloodline’s betterment of Jey’s judgment. This was probably the most interesting component of the Reigns-Paul story so far. B level
