Wow. This week has been so full of news that we will hesitate to add more for fear of an explosion. After a long wait for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Persona 5 Royal to launch on Switch, who would have thought that the Bayonetta 3 drama would outshine them all? Hey, welcome to the world of Nintendo!

In addition to keeping all the lovely readers updated on all the twists and turns in the aforementioned voiceover dispute, we’ve been busy lining up every Mario Party game ahead of the release of the first two games in the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. layering the moon and all the new ‘mons’ of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (totally factual and objective of course).

We also managed to get our hands on some brand new games this week. From the highly enjoyable Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Persona 5 Royal to the less enjoyable Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway.

We hope this weekend is less full of drama so we all have time to play a good game. Below, a group of our writers have shared their game plans for the coming days, and we want you to do the same! Give it a read, then be sure to leave a comment below to let us know what you’re playing this weekend.

Happy reading!

Nintendo Gods gave me a positive look this week. I finished Tunic last weekend (so sad) and then this week I had to renew my NSO subscription (also very sad), however This time I chose to go for the Expansion Pack and I’m leaving for the weekend, so I have two long train journeys ahead of me (great happiness)!

All this new power means I’m definitely going to hit some N64 titles. at risk of sounding like real boyThe N64 was released before I was born, so as far as I know there are a lot of holes I’m keen to plug in. I’m thinking of starting with some F-Zero X and Banjo-Kazooie before diving into Star Fox 64.

Of course, the force can come directly to me and I will eventually start playing Ocarina of Time for the 200th time, but would that really be a terrible thing? Yes it is, Jim, you have to play some different games.

As a total WH40K freak, I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef. October is coming to an end, but last week wouldn’t be without two more stellar AAA releases that I hoped had time to enjoy: the long-awaited and rumored Persona 5 Royal (my first time in the game!) Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. Add in my ongoing SD Gundam Battle Alliance campaign and I’m pretty sure it will fall short for all the video game-related missions scheduled this weekend.

Game of the Week (still!) NieR: Automata. Rent-free has been living in my head since the game came out. I am so happy for this stellar transformation.

This weekend, I’ll be playing something that I definitely (sort of) don’t need to replay – Persona 5 Royal. I’ve beaten vanilla Persona 5 before on PS4, but didn’t get Royal when it came out, so I really want to know if the changes make this an even better game. I won’t have much time to give a good introduction to the story, but I’m still looking forward to visiting Shujin Academy in Tokyo again.

I’ll also pick up Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope for some cute, jolly fun. The easier difficulty doesn’t bother me (I’m terrible at strategy games!), and the lack of multiplayer doesn’t bother me either. I just want to play something really silly and colorful. I think Persona 5 fits that summary too!

Listen… you know what I played this weekend. You all do. Resident Evil 4. How can I not?! After watching the incredible gameplay reveal for the upcoming remake (obviously not coming to Switch), I stepped back, once again, a game that brings me endless joy and happiness. I’m not sure whether to take my time and experience the game as it was designed before the remake begins, or go straight for a speedrun. We’ll see…

Elsewhere, I was playing a bit of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze; Without a doubt one of the best platform games ever created. It’s great to dive into it again as I haven’t touched it in a few years. Will I finish it this weekend though, is another story.

This weekend, I’m going to watch my partner finish Virtue’s Last Reward, play a ton of Disney Dreamlight Valley, and finish Limbo (which I really don’t want to do, uggggggggggggggggggggggggh).

But! I also wanted to give a shout out to a PC game I would like to recommend. If you like The Case of the Golden Idol and Obra Dinn’s Return, you should definitely give it a shot. I finished it in a few hours but I was really impressed!!

We hope you enjoyed reading! Be sure to leave a comment below for your weekend game plans!
