Nigel Farage says Fox News Digital Conservative party is 'done' and 'serves no purpose', clues to new party

Liz Truss’ resignation as UK prime minister just 44 days after taking office has left the Conservative Party with an uncertain future, with Nigel Farage declaring the party “dead” while others argue the party must evolve to survive the challenge of new “movements”

“The British Conservative Party is over, it’s dead,” Farage told Fox News Digital. “After 200 years of existence, it no longer serves any purpose. The field opens up to a new centre-right political movement.”

Truss announced his resignation just a day after declaring that he was “a fighter and not a giver”, succumbing to party pressure and mobilizing a leadership election that will take place “within the next week”. It backed out on a series of planned tax cuts outlined in its “mini-budget”, which sparked a strong backlash in markets that saw the value of sterling fall to record lows, forcing Truss to sack Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng.

Some believe the problem has gone beyond Truss and the party has lost its way: Lance Forman, a former Conservative Party MP and Brexit Party MP in the European Parliament, told Fox News Digital that the Conservative Party “seems to have moved a lot more in the center or in the middle of nowhere. even on the left.”

“You know, now you almost have a situation where, you know, you’re fighting old labor versus new labor as the new real conservatives are leaving,” Forman said, “that’s a very fast-changing situation,” and “all of it.” It’s kind of crazy right now.”

Farage, the mastermind of the Brexit Party “Britain Reform” in the European Parliament, posted a video to Twitter on Thursday. “big guns” from the party joining him to help “replace” the Conservative Party, saying he “couldn’t do it” on his own.

Forman said it was “very difficult” and “almost impossible” to form a new party in the current system, but acknowledged that the Conservative party had no clear path to follow due to “so much dissatisfaction” with the party.

“A lot of people blamed … what’s going on [with] Budget, certainly with our economy, but you just have to look at the world and interest rates are rising and there’s a lot going on right now,” Forman continued. “Is there room for a new party? Will the Conservative Party split? That’s difficult.”

LIZ TRUSS VS. LETTUCE: UK PRIME MINISTER PASSES LIVE BROADCAST VEGETABLES

Some analysts dismissed the notion that the best way forward was to kill “the most successful political party in the Western Hemisphere.”

Alan Mendoza, executive director of the Henry Jackson Society, told Fox News Digital that the Conservative Party can survive by “constantly reinventing itself,” as it has done before.

“The Conservative Party may be going through a period of reinvention, and sometimes these periods of reinvention can lead to defeat for the party, but for a moment I don’t believe the Conservative Party will be replaced,” Mendoza said.

Citing other times of weakness in the party, such as in the 1990s, after inflicting a “catastrophic defeat” on Tony Blair’s “new Labour” movement, he argued that the party could “reassemble itself”. According to Mendoza, the real issue is the government, not the party.

WILL TRUSS GO BACK TO SAVE THE DAY BORIS AT OUT?

“I think right now the party has obviously had a shock to the system in the form of Truss-onomics and what Liz Truss has been trying to do before that… though if you remember, in 2019 Boris Johnson got a solid 80-seat majority in terms of the British Parliament or so and that’s very It was the vast majority,” he said.

“It was clear that its ability to rule was controlled by the fact that it had to reinvent itself in England as a party approaching both northern and southern problems,” Mendoza said. “It seems strange to think that after only three years the Conservative Party will be over.”

Nile Gardiner, director of the Margaret Thatcher Freedom Center at The Heritage Foundation, agreed with Mendoza’s assessment that the British government was “in a dire state of crisis and turmoil”.

“The Conservative Party will continue to be the largest or most powerful force on the right, holding a large parliamentary majority,” Gardiner told Fox News Digital. “At the moment, [they] There are more than 70 MPs, so even if a new party on the right emerges … it may split the vote on the right and a new party on the right may weaken the Conservative Party, but it cannot replace the Conservative Party. dominant force on the right.”

As for the future, Gardiner noted that Jeremy Hunt, recently appointed as the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, stands as “arguably the most powerful politician” in the UK to dictate policy over the past few days, but it remains unclear who will end up. Direct replacement of truss.

But whoever takes over will face the challenge of reuniting the party and putting together a government that appears “on the verge of collapse.”
