Khamzat Chimaev is restrained by security during brawl with Khabib Nurmagomedov's cousin after Islam Makhachev won the lightweight title at UFC 280, but there will be no sanctions from Dana White

UFC star Khamzat Chimaev has a habit of engaging in physical skirmishes with fighters outside of the Octagon on cards he’s not involved in.

The top middleweight contender attended Saturday night’s UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi to watch Islam Makhchev beat Charles Oliveira in the second round to claim the lightweight title.

Makhachev’s title celebrations quickly turned sour

Earlier in the evening, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov defeated Gadzhi Omargadzhiev before heading to the cage to watch his teammate claim UFC gold.

However, Mahachev’s post-fight celebrations were somewhat dampened when Abubakar got into a scuffle with Chimaev, which was caught on camera and has now gone viral.

Several media and fans caught footage of an enraged ‘Borz’ being restrained by security while shouting obscene things off-camera at Nurmagomedov, who seemed to have seriously angered him during a speech that turned violent.

While it’s unclear what triggered this hostile shift, the UFC duo seems to have a history, with Nurmagomedov posting a lengthy message addressed to Chimaev on Instagram 2021.

Just last month, Chimaev plunged his UFC 279 fight week into chaos when he got into a backstage fight with Nate Diaz and Kevin Holland – the fight ended after a bad lady weight derailed her fight with her one-time BMF championship challenger.

In April, the 28-year-old verbally exchanged middleweight contender Joaquin Buckley with his friend and training partner Darren Till about a potential challenge ahead of UFC 273.

Chimaev seemed offended by Buckley’s behavior and said they could fight right now before security stepped in to calm the situation.

Reacting to the situation, Dana White said, “What shall I say about this? Especially with him. It’s possible.

“I didn’t even know Khamzat was coming tonight, he was invited by Abu Dhabi. So the seats behind me belong to Abu Dhabi.”

But White downplayed suggestions that Chimaev would be punished: “This is hard work. Bad things are said, sometimes men get involved.

“It’s our job at the UFC to make sure these things don’t happen. We weren’t right and [couldn’t] prevent it from happening, but we got in there.

“Things happen. When 800 alpha males and females are contracted, sometimes things cross paths and this happens.

“It doesn’t bother me or hurt my feelings or anything. We’ll handle it, then move on.”

When he’s not out of the Octagon, Chimaev is one of the best fighters on the planet when he’s in and now has a perfect 12-0 record.

Ahead of UFC 280, Dana White suggested that she might face England’s Colby Covington on the bottom card of Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman 3, which is expected to take place early next year.
