AMD's Fastest Radeon RX 7000 "RDNA 3" Laptop GPU Can Deliver RX 6950 XT & RTX 3090 Performance Levels

AMD will make a huge leap in laptop GPU performance with its next-generation Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” chips.

AMD Brings Radeon RX 6950 XT & RTX 3090 Performance to Laptops with Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” GPUs

In two separate tweets by Greymon55 and Kopite7kimi, both leakers reported that next-gen AMD Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” laptop GPUs will provide a huge boost to gaming performance on mobile platforms. First, we have grimon55His tweet saying that Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” Notebook GPUs (represented by the laptop emoji) will offer performance on par with AMD’s fastest RDNA 2 graphics card, the Radeon RX 6950 XT.

second tweet from kopite7some Considering that the company will be using the X950 XT branding for its top RDNA 3 desktop graphics card, it gives us the Radeon RX 7900M, which may or may not have a flagship RDNA 3 GPU, as a possible SKU name. Regardless, the Radeon RX 7900M is said to offer performance on par with the massive NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090. Currently, there isn’t a single laptop GPU that comes close to flagship desktop graphics cards.

AMD’s fastest laptop GPU available, the RDNA 2 powered Radeon RX 6850M XT is only on par with the Radeon RX 6700 XT (Desktop). NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Notebook SKU is comparable to the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070. As such, both laptop chips are far from desktop counterparts, but next-gen GPUs will push it up a notch and bring flagship-level performance. NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 series mobility GPUs will include the AD103-based RTX 4090 as its flagship, as the AD102 GPU is too power-hungry for the laptop segment. AMD will do the same and is expected to use the Navi 32 die (MCM) for the laptop segment.

While the next-gen laptop GPUs may not offer the same performance as the fastest desktop cards based on newer architecture, it will still be impressive to see them match the latest-generation flagships while sipping just a fraction of the power.

Based on Nav 3x GPUs, the AMD Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” GPU series is expected to launch later this year, with reports that the flagship Navi 31 was first launched after the Navi 32 and Navi 33 GPUs. We’ll likely get our first taste of the RDNA 3 mobility series by CES 2023.
